Privacy Policy: Couch Fishing
Effective Date: October 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Couch Fishing ("the app"), developed by BefuddleBug ("we," "our," or "us"), collects and processes, how that information is used, where it is kept, and how you can have it deleted. It applies to the Couch Fishing application on the Meta Horizon Store.
1. Data We Collect and Process
Couch Fishing collects and processes the following data through Meta's Platform SDK:
- User ID (your Meta account's ID for this app). Used to submit your scores to the Couch Fishing online leaderboards and to highlight your own entry when the leaderboards are shown.
- User profile (your Meta display name). Used to show your name next to your scores on the Couch Fishing online leaderboards.
- Age group (the age category of your Meta account: preteen, teen, or adult). Used to give you an age-appropriate experience. If your account is in the preteen group (ages 10 to 12), the app never submits your scores and does not show the online leaderboards.
- Leaderboard scores. When a player aged 13 or older lands a fish, the app submits three scores: the weight of your heaviest fish (with which kind of fish it was), the number of species you have discovered, and the total number of fish you have caught.
- Entitlement. When the app starts, it checks with Meta that your account owns the app.
2. How the Data Is Used
The data above is used only to run Couch Fishing's features: checking that you own the app, choosing an age-appropriate experience, and showing the online leaderboards. It is not used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or marketing, and it is never sold.
3. Where the Data Is Kept and Who Can See It
- Leaderboard entries (your User ID, display name, scores, and the date of each score) are stored by Meta on its leaderboard service. Other Couch Fishing players aged 13 or older can see your display name and scores on the leaderboards in the app. We, the developer, can view and remove entries through Meta's developer tools. We do not copy leaderboard data to our own servers.
- Age group and entitlement are checked each time the app starts. The app keeps them in memory while it is running and does not save them.
- Game save data (your catches, Fish Book progress, records, the This Headset leaderboard, and settings) is stored on your headset only and is not sent anywhere.
We do not share your data with anyone else. Meta processes it as the platform provider under Meta's own privacy policy.
4. How Long the Data Is Kept
Leaderboard entries are kept while Couch Fishing's leaderboards are active, or until you ask us to delete them. Game save data stays on your headset until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
5. Your Choices
Players aged 13 or older can stop submitting scores at any time by turning off Online scores in the app's Settings menu. Your existing entries stay on the leaderboards until you ask us to delete them.
6. How to Request Deletion of Your Data
Every user, in every country, can have their data deleted at no cost, without exception.
- Leaderboard data: email befuddlebug@befuddlebug.com with the subject "Couch Fishing data deletion" and include the Meta display name shown on your leaderboard entries. We will remove all of your Couch Fishing leaderboard entries and confirm by email within 30 days.
- Data on your headset: clear Couch Fishing's app data in your headset settings, or uninstall the app. This deletes your save file immediately.
You can use the same email address to ask what data we hold about you or to make any other privacy request.
7. Children's Privacy
Couch Fishing is designed for a general audience, including players aged 10 and up. For preteen accounts (ages 10 to 12), the app reads only the age group and the entitlement check described above. It does not submit scores, display names, or User IDs for those accounts, and it does not show them the online leaderboards. Parents can request deletion of any data using the steps in section 6.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
